For Cartoon Network’s “ACME Night” movie block, we sound designed a number of bumpers set in the iconic world of the Looney Tunes. The “Highway” bumper begins with a lo-fi mono hum built with heavily filtered, vintage synth sounds. As the camera zooms into hyperdrive, the filters open up, and the lo-fi synths transform into modern, full-frequency tones spread wide across the stereo field. This transition captures the feeling of moving from the past and into the future, a perfect representation of a property that is nearly a hundred years old, but is still as relevant in today’s pop cultural landscape as it ever was.
