This is a highlight reel of some of our favorite moments from a 60 minute documentary we sound designed and mixed about the GMC Hummer EV. In traditional car spots, the vehicle’s roaring engine is the key sound that adds aggression and excitement. But since this is an electric vehicle with a much quieter engine, this documentary presented a unique opportunity to capture that same explosive drama using other sonic components.

To do so, we focused on the terrain: the crackle of gravel and dirt, the hiss of spraying sand, and the crunch of heavy tires on snow. To compliment these organic textures, we added cinematic sounds like wide whooshes and low, dramatic hits that underscore the car’s movements. Taken together, these ingredients emphasize the heft and force of the vehicle as it speeds across the rugged landscape.
